“We’re a long way from home, but this is just about the closest feeling to it,” Yannis Philippakis of Foals proclaimed at The Observatory on Thursday night. The Oxford band is in the US for a string of holiday radio fests, but were able to grace Orange County with a warm up gig. While OC crowds are always apt to get rowdy, it can border on aggressive and scary. For Foals, the atmosphere was indeed rowdy, but the contained kind that comes out when fans are overwhelmed with joy. Several crowdsurfing fans plummeted from the tops of hands onto the hard floor of the pit, but always recovered with huge grins on their faces.
