Men of few words, Dr. Dog made their way Santa Ana’s Observatory last week, selling out the venue on top of a packed show at the Wiltern. First act Moses Sumney summoned his musical powers to lull the crowd. Even in Orange County, known for rowdy crowds no matter the genre, Sumney quieted the entire audience throughout his stunning performance. Following Sumney was New Jersey’s bouncy and charming Saint Rich. Frontman Christian Peslak had moves reminiscent of Mick Jagger, jumping down to the barricade to serenade a female member of the front row. Finally, Pennsylvania’s Dr. Dog graced the stage for some lo-fi psychedelic folk rock. The band let the tunes do the talking and the crowd went mad for them, particularly during “Lonesome” (the crowd very enthusiastically chanting out the “Hey!”s throughout the song) and Architecture In Helsinki cover “Heart It Races”.
