Live Review: Spazzkid at Club Los Globos 7/5/14

Since Spazzkid aka Mark Redito released his full length album Desire, he’s been a busy guy. Over the past year, he’s developed a loyal following not only locally here in LA, but also around the country and abroad. His infectious electronic-chillwave sound is impossible to sit still to, and his live performances really seem to get the crowd into it.

Now a part of Daedelus‘s record label, Magical Properties, Spazzkid is poised to break out and be heard. It also doesn’t hurt that his latest EP Promise is his best work to date. The launch happened this past Saturday at Club Los Globos, deep in the hipster mecha of Silver Lake.

Supported by Daedalus himself as well as up and comers Snorlax, and Sodapop, the stacked lineup brought a good crowd of people in. However, as the time for Spazzkid to take the stage drew closer, it was clear that the pumped up crowd was waiting for him.

The energy was really palpable as soon as Mark started, and it seemed to carry and build on itself through out his entire set. His new material especially seemed to jive with the audience, with frequent loud cheers bringing a massive smile to his face. His set also included tracks from his previous record, the highly successful Desire, and the annoyingly catchy “PonPonPon” by J-pop star Kyary Pampyu Pamyu.

By the last few songs of the set, many of the audience, including ourselves had created an on-stage dance party. No one really wanted the performance to end, and we were all living it up, sweating it up, until the very last song, even squeezing an epic finale out to the excitement of the packed house.

It was a night to remember, and Promise EP is highly recommended as your new summer soundtrack.
