Sometimes you can be pleasantly surprised when you check out a band on a whim. On an unassuming Wednesday night Tim Gray & The Delusions took the tiny stage in the corner of Costa Mesa’s Wayfarer. While bar patrons played pool, watched hockey, and chatted throughout the set, Gray didn’t waste a minute of his allotted time, performing two songs solo while an equipment issue was resolved.
It was a shame that most in the venue were so distracted, as Gray’s soothing voice perfectly coupled with tunes reminiscent of alt-country greats like Wilco and Ryan Adams and a little Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers mixed in. Those few of us with open ears know that Gray has something special.
