On Loop: “The Shade” by Metric

In anticipation of their sixth studio record and a slew of North American shows opening for Imagine Dragons, new wave electronica quartet Metric have unveiled the polished single, “The Shade.” Between dizzying synth progressions and frontwoman Emily Haines’ bubbling trills, the track lingers on the edge of the 80’s stylized dance-rock that the band has taken heavy cues from.

The still untitled record, which is due for release sometime in September, will be the follow-up to 2012’s, award-winning, Synthetica. “The Shade” may not be as vivaciously bleak in its starless synth-pop as songs like, “Artificial Nocturne,” and, “Synthetica,” but it carries with it that same glittering zeal for infectiously articulated lyrics and hooks.

Pre-order for the Metric’s new album will be available June 2. Their tour with Imagine Dragons kicks-off June 3 with a stop at The Forum on July 24.
