Live review: The Weepies at the Fonda Theatre 6/9/15

A little rain on Hollywood was a great accompaniment to the night as husband and wife duo Deb Talan and Steve Tannen aka The Weepies played The Fonda. They are currently on the road in support of their newest album in five years, the excellent Sirens.

The last time I saw the Weepies was in 2011 so I was quite excited to see them perform on stage again. The anxiety only disappeared once the curtain started rolling up, overcome by the now loud cheers of the crowd.

The band started with an some old favorites like “Gotta Have You,” “Be My Thrill” before moving on to a mix of newer songs and more crowd favorites throughout the night. Then they hosted a quite humorous Q&A in between songs. “What’s your favorite color?” asked one audience member. “I have 3 kids and their favorite color is red, blue & green. So my favorite color is red, blue & green,” quipped Steve. “We also tried looking for a home in Los Angeles. We started looking on the Westside. Due to high prices, we moved the search a little to the east, until finally finding one in Iowa.” The night would continue on with these small personal stories along with their heart wrenching songs.

“It’s good to be back in LA,” both Tannen and Talen would utter somewhere in between the night. It was definitely good to have them back, even for just a night.
