Veruca Salt played the El Rey Theatre Saturday night in support of their recently released album Ghost Notes the day before. The band features the original lineup and seem to have the same energy they had 20 years ago when they released their first LP, American Thighs. After the mysterious, but reportedly dramatic, rift between Nina Gordon and Louise Post, it’s clear to see that they’ve really patched things up as they enter the stage hand-in-hand. The set was a solid collection of old and new and they finished with “Volcano Girls”. The Muffs opened with a great set. They toured with Veruca Salt in 1995 and haven’t played with them since. It almost felt like a family reunion. Newcomers, Talk in Tongues, started the night with some great psychedelic-inspired music.
