LA shows you should check out next week!
We usually dread when weekends are over, but you’ve got plenty of reasons to look forward to the coming week. Monday starts it off with a sold out show by The Drums, Craft Spells, and Part Time at El Rey with a repeat on Tuesday. On Thursday, you’ll have to make a difficult decision. Beach Fossils and Catwalk will be playing Echoplex the same night as The Dandy Warhols at The Wiltern. On Friday, we’ve got Dum Dum Girls, Young Prisms and more shaking things up at Echoplex. Saturday has... Read The Rest →
Show Preview: Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros at the Greek
As we wait for Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros' upcoming releases, they'll be touring pretty extensively across North America and Europe with many shows already sold out. Here, the first of two new records, will be out on May 29.
Show Preview: Washed Out at The Music Box
Ernest Greene has reached the halfway mark of his US tour as Washed Out is scheduled to stop over California to soup up a series of gigs. After the commendable release of 2009’s Life of Leisure EP and last year’s successful follow up Within and Without, the chillwave emissary went on to paddle the warm American waves starting March with a full band setup.
Show preview: Wild Beasts and Superhumanoids at The Echo and more!
April 18th is packed with some really awesome shows for everyone in various parts of LA. We’re particularly excited about seeing the UK’s Wild Beasts and LA’s very own Superhumanoids rock out The Echo. Check out tracks from the bands below. Our favorite shows for tomorrow. Have you decided where to go yet? (P.S. See you in the bolded ones!) Check out our Los Angeles calendar for more exciting events. Emeli Sandé at Bootleg Bar, 7:00pm Miike Snow, Wolf Gang at El Rey Theatre, 8:00pm Wild Beasts, Superhumanoids at The... Read The Rest →
On Loop: “One Second of Love” by Nite Jewel
Check out Nite Jewel's video for "One Second of Love", the title track from her new album of the same name. She will be playing a sold out show at the Troubadour tomorrow with Chairlift. Doors open at 8pm and we're expecting it to kick some major ass. See you there!
Show Preview: Bowerbirds at the Troubadour
Bowerbirds, one of my long time favorites, is stopping by the Troubadour tomorrow night as part of their ongoing US tour for their third album, The Clearing.
A Call/Farewell to Arms: The Last Meiday
Finales are usually soaked in tears, sandwiched in goodbyes and eulogizing. But Meiday refuses to be encased in such. Bidding us goodbye in its fourth year, Mei Bastes’s baby goes out with an 80s themed party that doubles as a shoot for Marie Jamora’s Cinemalaya entry Ang Nawawala. Expect big hairstyles, kitschy clothing and a slew of Madonna and 80s bands and film references (let’s hope there are those brave enough to go as the Village People). Meiday’s triumph will always be the resurrection of the flatlining local music scene. Mei’s... Read The Rest →

On Loop: “Life of Crime” by Geographer
One of the bands I just can’t stop listening to lately is Geographer. I remember hearing the single Kites from their Animal Shapes EP for the first time. I found myself immediately drawn to the odd mix of the driving synth (almost cheery, even), the rich-sounding cello, and lead singer Mike Deni’s powerful, melancholic voice. Their debut Innocent Ghosts explores the themes of love and loss. Despite the tragic circumstances that lead Deni to creating wonderful music with cellist Nathan Blaz and drummer Brian Ostreicher, both from the prestigious Berklee... Read The Rest →
