Wild Beasts and Superhumanoids at The Echo, April 18, 2012

It was an amazing night of good music in a packed venue with a crowd that was there to have fun and rock out to two awesome bands. The night began with Los Angeles-based band, Superhumanoids. The audience was treated to Sarah Chernoff's arresting voice as she sang "Black Widow", a rather haunting song that quickly quieted down the room.

Popular Mechanics for the Heartbroken: The Pains of Being Pure at Heart’s Kip Berman

Kip Berman was upset that he didn’t get to eat at Jollibee. The night of their concert here in Manila, Kip said he wanted to eat at Jollibee, which he referred to as an ‘amazing fast food restaurant.’ “I need to go to Jolibee. They opened one in New York [in Brooklyn]. It was a big deal. I see it everywhere here,” Kip gushes. But a day later, Kip dishearteningly tweeted that he didn’t get to eat at Jollibee. We would have thrown him a Jollibee party, to be honest. Complete with... Read The Rest →

Bowerbirds and Dry The River at the Troubadour, April 7, 2012

I hate this word, but I'm going to use it because there's just no other way to put it - eargasmic. That's what this show was. I expected it to be really good having listened to Bowerbirds for years and I've read a lot of good things about Dry The River as well. I guess I underestimated the whole thing and at some point, I even forgot I was there to take pictures. It's shows like this that remind me why I love music.

It’s Hard Being a Being by Kat Medina

Kat, you’ve been doing art for how long now? I’ve been painting and making things since I was a kid but maybe around five years if you want to consider art-making in terms of formal learning. Why the delayed solo? When I was given a chance to do a solo show, I felt lucky but, at the same time, felt sheltered, and I wasn’t sure if I really had something to say, so I went out of my way to experience a bit of life. When I got laid off... Read The Rest →

Parenthetical Girls and Perfume Genius at Bootleg Theater, March 22, 2012

Nothing could’ve prepared us for this show. We had a particularly bad start that night having faced some problems before arriving at Bootleg Theater just in time for Parenthetical Girls. They faced a pretty absurd amount of technical difficulties. At one point, frontman Zac Pennington had to soundcheck in the middle of the audience which was funny, but quite ridiculous at the same time. Once their set started, however, Zac was fully in character and performed supremely with his trademark moves that enthralled everyone in the room. He ended the... Read The Rest →
